Prolotherapy is an alternative approach for the treatment of joint and muscle pain which can also be known as regenerative injection therapy or proliferation therapy.‌ A sugar or saline substance is injected into the affected joint or muscle, where it acts as an irritant. This triggers the body's immune and healing responses to the area and in turn helps to repair any damaged soft tissue in the joint or muscle area. Prolotherapy is performed under ultrasound guidance and a minimum of three sessions are usually required in order to experience the full benefits of this treatment.
